Orthodontic Evaluations

WHO NEEDS ONE AND WHAT TO EXPECT

For children, it is important to make sure your child receives an orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven. But orthodontics isn’t just for kids. However, adults may also require an orthodontic evaluation if you have recurrent dental issues such as chipping or breakage of restorations such as crowns and fillings.

An orthodontic evaluation involves a full analysis of your teeth and mouth. We’ll take some x-rays to help us assess your bite. Your doctor will then develop a conservative plan based on your unique needs and concerns.

Interceptive Orthodontics

EARLY INTERVENTION TO AVOID FUTURE PROBLEMS

At Brocks Gap Orthodontics, we believe in the power of early intervention. Interceptive orthodontics is all about guiding your child’s face and jaw development at an early age so they can avoid orthodontic problems. By conducting early orthodontic evaluations and starting orthodontic treatment early in a child’s life, we can help them to avoid much more complex (and costly) orthodontic treatment in the future.

Interceptive orthodontics typically starts at around age seven in children. It begins with a thorough orthodontic evaluation where we can detect alignment issues and emerging problems such as crossbites, underbites, gaps, or overcrowding issues.

Some examples of interceptive orthodontic treatments include:

  • The removal of teeth to prevent overcrowding
  • Use of palate expanders to widen a narrow jaw
  • Use of space maintainers to help guide permanent teeth into the correct place

Habit Correctors

PREVENTING BAD HABITS

Habits such as thumb-sucking, tongue thrusting, or lip sucking, can be a challenge and difficult to break, especially in children. That's why we offer habit correctors. These are innovative, evidence-based solutions that can effectively break bad habits, paving the way for optimal oral health. Treating bad habits early helps prevent malocclusion issues. For children who have developing mouths and jaws, it is particularly important, as treatment can help prevent future orthodontic problems as they grow.

Habit correctors are created to treat a wide range of habits that can lead to orthodontic issues in later life. To find out more, discuss what treatment options are available with your dentist.

Space Maintainers

FOR WHEN LITTLE ONES LOSE A TOOTH TOO EARLY

It’s not uncommon for small children to prematurely lose a baby tooth due to a fall or injury. Sometimes this can be caused by decay or severe damage due to other medical problems. Parents needn’t worry, but it is important to understand the important role that baby teeth play in your child’s oral health and development. The baby teeth are important placeholders that guide the permanent teeth into their correct position. Space maintainers can hold space where a baby tooth is no longer there. They effectively replace the missing tooth and prevent the adjacent teeth from shifting into the gap. This maintains alignment and prevents further complications from occurring.

Rapid Palatal Expanders

WIDENS A NARROW JAW

Some people naturally have a narrow jaw. However, a narrow jaw can have a significant impact on their smile and oral health function. Our team uses palatal expanders to help treat this issue. As the name suggests, these innovative dental devices widen the palate, or the mouth’s roof. Palatal expanders widen the jaw with gentle pressure, creating more space for the teeth. The results of expansion are gradual and once treatment is complete, patients can enjoy a range of improvements to their wellbeing. Palatal expansion can help to improve breathing, chewing, and overall oral health function. Palatal expanders are a treatment suitable for both adults and children.

Temporary Anchorage Devices

FOR COMPLEX ORTHODONTIC CASES

For complex orthodontic cases, our team uses temporary anchorage devices. These are an innovative device that consists of small titanium pins inserted into the jaw under local anesthetic. They act as an anchor and help to control the movement of the teeth. From closing gaps to correcting bite problems, temporary anchorage devices are a very effective solution. They can simply be removed once the treatment is complete.

Braces

AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION THAT STRAIGHTEN SMILES

Braces are a tried and tested method that straightens the teeth and improves occlusion. Traditional braces are a very common treatment for both adults and children. They can correct a crooked smile, overcrowding, and even gaps by adjustingand guiding the teeth into their optimum positions to create a well-aligned smile.

When it comes to braces, we can offer silver, ceramic, or clear options. Whether it’s for yourself or your child, each treatment plan is 100% customized. We will adjust the wires and use rubber bands to add pressure to the teeth so they will shift into their correct positions. Patients need to be aware that a consistent dental routine at home is essential when you’re wearing braces. Unlike aligners and retainers, they are not removable. It is important to keep your teeth clean and healthy to achieve the best possible results.

It was a wonderful experience and the staff and Dr. Jones was very informative. We got right in and we were able to be right there while our son got his braces. This place is a 10 out of 10.

Clear Aligners

DISCREET STRAIGHTENING AND GREAT RESULTS

Brocks Gap Orthodontics can provide teens and adults with two leading brands of clear aligners—Invisalign and 3M Aligners. Both are very popular choices for patients who are looking for a more discreet option than traditional braces. Both Invisalign and 3M aligners allow you to smile brightly while your teeth are being gently and discreetly shifted. They can be removed for eating and cleaning and they are less of a lifestyle imposition than traditional braces. You can even still enjoy your favorite foods! To find out more about our clear aligner options and other orthodontic solutions, speak with one of our Brocks Gap Orthodontics doctors. They will be able to make recommendations about which course of treatment is likely to achieve the best results for your individual needs.

Retainers

KEEPS THE TEETH IN POSITION

Once you have completed your orthodontic treatment, you will need to wear a retainer for some time afterwards. Retainers are used in both teens and adults to maintain the great results your orthodontic treatment has created. They help to keep the teeth in their correct positions and prevent them from doing any further shifting around. How long you will need to wear a retainer will depend on your unique case. A typical timeframe is around three months to two years. However, this differs from patient to patient.
