Once you have completed your orthodontic treatment, you will need to wear a retainer for some time afterwards. Retainers are used in both teens and adults to maintain the great results your orthodontic treatment has created. They help to keep the teeth in their correct positions and prevent them from doing any further shifting around. How long you will need to wear a retainer will depend on your unique case. A typical timeframe is around three months to two years. However, this differs from patient to patient.
